An over night Hippos and Chimpanzees Tour is one of the best Gambian Experiences one can have, it really is an unforgettable adventure!
This tour starts with a drive from your hotel along the Trans-Gambia highway to a Town of Jarasoma were we will have our first stop to visit exciting Soma Town for a Tea or Coffee break. From Soma we will cross the Gambias longest bridge to Farafenni Town where we will visit the famous Farafenni Market and its people.
The drive continues to Wassau Stone Circle. Wassau stone circle is a UNESCO world heritage site (part of the stone circles of Senegambia). There are over 1000 Stones, some of which are up to 2 meters high! This stone circle is estimated to be around 1000 years old, It's purpose is still a mystery (possibly of ritual or astronomical significance) and there is a visitor centre where you will learn the history and the significance of the stones.
From the stone circle we will drive to Kuntaur Riverside were we will join our cruise boat to the River Gambia National Park and it's islands on our Hippos and Chimpanzees Safari. We will have a 3-4 hour relaxing boat tour to look for Chimpanzees Hippos, Crocodiles, Monkeys and birds. Finally we will land at Janjanbureh nature camp were we will spend the night.
The camp is located at the river edge. The quietness of the river with the sounds of nature and the calls of birds will accompany us as we drift off to a (well deserved) sleep until the morning. We will have a morning tour of the camp and then a short ferry crossing to Georgetown where we will visit underground slave houses, the Governors residence and some ancient colonies houses based on interest. We will then drive further inland to see some traditional villages and their inhabitants grass houses. Finally we will have an exciting drive back to our hotel.
The tour includes the following:
Accommodation
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Boat Trip
Fees and all Tickets
Depending on the booking clients that don’t want to take the cruise boat at Kuntaur can use a local boat to see the Hippos and Chimpanzees (which will last for 2 hours) and then drive to Janjanbureh Nature Camp for the night.
